The Sphere - a Non-Spherical, and Very Fancy, Bed

"The Sphere Is The Perfect Bed"
Homistic (April 21, 2008)

The reviewer said: "Karim Rashid, a renowned and acclaimed interior, fashion, furniture and lighting designer has unveiled his latest product. It’s called the Sphere, it was unveiled in Moscow and the exclusivity belongs to Hollandia International. The Sphere will fit perfectly in your bedroom and it’s one of the most comfortable beds that I have ever seen."

The thing has a
  • 32-inch TV with optional Theater System
  • Champagne holder
  • mirror on the outside
  • LED Florescent canopy-top lights
  • And - get this - a build-in massager
The photo gives a good look at The Sphere. It looks like an upholstered section of square culvert with a mattress inside. At first glance, I thought it was covered in shag, but that was just the texture.

Don't get me wrong: I think that The Sphere is probably a very comfortable high-end bed. As far as it's appearance, a quibble and an opinion:
  • The Quibble:
Despite its name, The Sphere is, topologically speaking, a torus, not a sphere
Although the optional re-upholstering would help, The Sphere looks to me like it would fit in any home whose owner had chosen an interior decor with an Austin Powers or Barbarella theme.
