And, Now, For Something Completely Different: A Cat and Five Tiny Rabbits

"When Thanksgiving centerpieces go wrong"

Hello Kitty! Three A330 Airliners Raise Air Travel Cuteness Levels

"Even More Photos of EVA Air's Three New 'Hello Kitty' Airplanes"
JetSetCD, jaunted (November 2, 2011)

"Last week, in a frenzy of excitement, we broke the news (for English-language press, at least) that Taiwan's EVA Air would celebrate their 20th Anniversary by bringing back the old, immensely successful Hello Kitty-painted airplane. Instead of only one as before, however, there'd be three A330s, each with a unique paintjob and the full treatment of Hello Kitty-ization on the inside and out.

"That alone was awesome news, and now we have more. Although the Hello Kitty plane routes only operate from Taipei-Taoyuan International to Tokyo, Fukuoka, Hokkaido, Seoul and Hong Kong, EVA Air has just begun long-haul flights from New York-JFK to Taipei...."

(EVA Air, via jaunted, used w/o permission)

These "Hello Kitty" airliners may not be everyone's cup of tea: but the Lemming's hat is off to EVA Air for raising the cuteness quotient of air travel. The jaunted article's photo gallery has more (adorable?) photos and renderings of the Hello Kitty planes. Including a look at the interiors.

One of the interior renderings is really, really pink. With Hello Kitty artwork on the headrests that are so sweet, EVA Air may want to consider warning passengers with diabetes to pack extra meds.

Did the Lemming mention that these are cute airliners? Extremely cute?

Enjoy.

Sic Transit Gloria Bunny - Cinnamon, of Disapproving Rabbits

"Cinnamon"
Disapproving Rabbits (June 13, 2011)

"Hello all.

"It is with deep sadness that Sharon and I tell you that Cinnamon has passed away. She had a wonderful life of some 13 years.

"As you can imagine, this is an emotional time for us. We're going to take a break from the website for a week...."

Disapproving Rabbits is back now - with "All disapproval, all the time." Today's post reads: "You're home? But... Dead Man's Curve! The brake line!" ("Cadbury,"Scott & Joanna, via Disapproving Rabbits (June 22, 2011))

Cinnamon's still with the blog, in a way: the posts are still "Disapproved of by Cinnamon."

The Lemming will let some of the 378 comments on Disapproving Rabbits' June 13, 2011, post speak for the Lemming:

"My sympathies on your loss. Thank you for sharing Cinnamon with us -- she was the best disapprover there was."
(BookGeekGrrl)

"Oh no :(
"we're so sorry to hear this....but wow, 13 years! She had a bunderfully long life and was so very loved by you and by all of us...bunny prayers to you and your family!"
(funnybunnykp)

"I'm sorry for your loss. Over the years that you have this blog, I've enjoyed seeing Cinnamon do her thing.

"I hope this won't mean the end of Disapproving Rabbits because I love this blog."
(Tilia)

'Rapture' and a Rattled Raccoon

"That's a Wrap, Sure"
Not That Mike The Other Mike, Cute Overload (May 22, 2011 )

"Wait… we're all still here? N-nothing happened?"

(Peter/Not That Mike The Other Mike, via Cute Overload, used w/o permission)

"No earthquakes? No torrents of fire? No express elevator to Heaven?..."

"...Sender-inner Peter notes that he thought he was staking out an owl's nest, but this raccoon appeared instead. Perhaps the owl just (pause for effect) disappeared."

The Cute Overload post has three more photos - each slightly larger than this copy. You'll probably want to read the mouse-over test, too.

The Lemming thought this sequence of photos, the captions - and the 'alt' text - were funny. Your experience may vary, of course.

Not-completely-unrelated posts:

Seriously, though: The Lemming realizes that a fair number of folks in America believed Mr. Camping, the radio preacher who made the latest 'Rapture' prediction. Some of them spent money like there was no tomorrow - and May 22, 2011, came anyway. That's not funny.

The Cute Overload photos and captions? That, for the Lemming, is funny.

Why does the Lemming react this way to yet one more 'End Times prophecy' not coming out as-advertised? Maybe these posts in another blog by the Lemming will explain:Or, maybe not.

Gerbils Anonymous: Cute Photos, Common-Sense Advice

Gerbils Anonymous

"...This is Larry, R, sapphire born about 1-15 April 2002. Fathered two litters. Left, Buddy, black pied male son, born 11-18-02 from Larry and Stripe, a pied/spotted black. Larry's pups all have nice full tufts. (the thing in the background is a jewelry display support, it's not in their jumbo kritter keeper) Larry's a lousy nestmaker but a great pupsitter. He can sleep through all sorts of havoc too. He samples and digs in hands but is pretty gentle. Adopted and lives in Denver!...."

Gerbil owners of the world rejoice! You're not the only one who wondered if your pet gerbil was healthy - and how to keep the little nibbler that way. From the Medical Index page of Gerbils Anonyymous:

"...GerbilsAnonymous and Celtic Clique Gerbils have teamed up--the first aid/help index on Celtic Clique's website links to here. You're more than welcome to browse and help yourself. Links are scattered throughout to let you get back to her site when you're done here...."

Gerbils are Not Hamsters

The creator of Gerbils Anonymous told the Lemming about the differences between gerbils and hamsters - one tends to stink and the other doesn't, but the Lemming doesn't remember which is which.

No matter: the Lemming's household won't be getting another furry critter to care for. With the Lemming in residence, the Lemming's wife has quite enough on her hands.

Back to Gerbils Anonymous. The Medical Index page links to what seems like common-sense advice to the Lemming, with this (equally common-sense, in the Lemming's opinion) disclaimer:

"...I offer the following related pages from my experience. You can read and use anything from here AT YOUR OWN RISK. I accept NO liability and NO responsibility for what's presented here, how it's used, or what the outcome may be. These are things that have worked for me, there are exceptions to every rule...."

Awareness that quite a lot of health care for humans are 'things that have worked for me, there are exceptions to every rule' seems to be filtering into the Medical professions in this country - - - and that's another topic.

Otter, Pebbles, Video: Enjoy

"otter playtime"

efu246, YouTube (April 23, 2010)
video, 1:12

[no description]

It's anyone's guess, why the otter puts rocks on its neck and wriggles until they fall off.

But understanding motives isn't, in the Lemming's opinion, necessary. It's a cute video. In the Lemming's opinion.

Enjoy.

Automatic Doors for the Home, Cute Tiger Cubs, and Living in Minnesota

"Three great inventions we really need…"
Robert Basler, Oddly Enough, Reuters Blog (February 8, 2011)

"Blog Guy, apart from writing textbooks and making airplanes, what do you do with your time?

"I dabble at inventing. Someday one of my ideas will catch on, and that will be my ticket out of this dump.

"Is there anything you can share with us?

"Well, I do have three patents pending. You know the automatic doors they have at stores?

"Of course. They open when you approach, but those have been around forever.

"Yes, but not the smaller home version. Why should you have to turn a doorknob when you can have all the convenience of a supermarket at your own front door?..."

A playful pair of month-old Bengal tiger cubs have a well-earned sleep in Bangkok in a 2003 file photo. Reuters/Sukree Sukplang
(from Reuters/Sukree Sukplang, via Oddly Enough, used w/o permission)

That photo - purportedly - shows a test of a gadget that decides which side you sleep on. For the busy sleeper.

This Oddly Enough post is about as serious and fraught with portent as any other - which is either not at all; or more than might be supposed.

Like the automatic door openers for residences.

That's silly, right? Who would possibly want something like that? Next thing you know, Mr. Basler will claim that folks would want garage doors that go up or down at the touch of a button.

Wait a minute - garage door openers are about as common as garage doors in many parts of America.

The Lemming remembers when that wasn't so. Living in central Minnesota, the Lemming also understands why a foolish luxury like motorized garage doors - didn't turn out to be so foolish, after all.

Mr. Basler might have a patentable - and profitable - product there. If someone else isn't already marketing something like it.

Kitten; Foosball; Video: Fun

"funny kitten playing foosball "

mykidsthrillme, YouTube (December 26, 2010)
video, 1:21

"kitten, funny, foosball, playing, cute," - - - and the Lemming couldn't have put it better, myself.

The kitten seemed to be having a great time, stepping (with the occasional stumble) over the foosball bars, batting the ball into the goals, and entertaining the people around the table.

Armadillo!

"Texas Armadillo"

orioncountry, YouTube (February 7, 2006)
video, 2:06

"For everyone that hasn't seen an armadillo up close, here you go. Straight from South Texas, found this Nine-banded Armadillo and followed him back to his burrow. He put on a little show for me...."

The unlikely little armored critter doesn't tap dance: but the Lemming can think of quite a few worse ways to spend a bit over two minutes.

Enjoy.

A Rabbit, Pumpkin, and Thanksgiving

"Cinnamon Thanksgiving 2010"

DisapprovingRabbits, YouTube (November 25, 2010)

"Cinnamon gets her Thanksgiving bounty."

As featured on Disapproving Rabbits.

The Lemming's pretty sure that Cinnamon wasn't able to finish the entire can. Or allowed to try. Getting the can away from her would have involved a conflict of wills, though.

A Rabbit, a Reindeer Tiara, and a Grim Sentiment

"TJ"
Disapproving Rabbits (November 19, 2010)

(from Gayle, via Disapproving Rabbits, used w/o permission)

"Let's wait 'til after Thanksgiving.
"For me to kill you."

Disapproving Rabbits is hard to write micro-reviews for. At least, the way the Lemming does it. Take a sentence, and you've got most - or all - of the post. Leave the photo out, and the sentence doesn't make sense. Describe the photo - which could be tedious for both of us - and half the fun's gone when you finally see it.

So: this is pretty much the whole post, as-is, from Disappearing Rabbits.

The Lemming hopes they don't mind.

And that TJ isn't quite as upset as all that, about that oversize reindeer tiara.

Now This Would Make a Great Conspiracy Theory!

"And from the Dust, the Bunnies Shall Rise"
Prongs, via Cute Overload (October 26, 2010)

"I'll make you a deal, Doc: I won't tell anyone you were conducting experiments the feds would find highly suspicious, if you don't tell the world that we're now ambidextrous bipeds with a hankerin' for world domination."

Does the Lemming think that cute little rabbits like that are secretly planning to conquer the world? No. I don't think there are space aliens in Denver, either. Or that gerbils are plotting to take over Minnesota. (I made up the one about Minnesota gerbils. The space aliens thing was on the Denver ballot. (November 4, 2010))

I don't generally quote so much (all, in this case) of what I micro-review: but those Cute Overload posts are so brief that my normal excerpt ratio didn't make sense. I mean, what could we make of "I'll make...?"

You'll find the full-size photo of that rabbit on Cute Overload.

Four Insistent Puppies and Their Mother

"No more milk guys!"

maxie363, YouTube (January 24, 2007)
video, 0:51

"Puppies chasing for more milk while mommy teases."

Judging from how active they are, my guess is that those puppies are being taken care of quite well.

That barrier - low enough for the mother dog to pass, too high (at this point) for the puppies - is an ingenious way to give her some breathing space.
