A Search Engine Just for Icons

"Free Web icons - An Enormous list"
webmasterkit.info (May 30, 2008)

"If you don’t have the skills or the time to create original icons for your website you can find plenty on the web. iconfinder is a search engine to search for icons. Two other icon search sites...."

This page alone displays a huge number of icons: big icons, little icons, colorful icons, not-so-colorful icons.

I'm always cautious about "free" stuff on the Web: but this looks like a pretty good resource.

Hiring a Web Guy? Be Careful Who You Hire

"9 Signs You Shouldn't Hire THAT Web Guy" (February 11, 2008)

A nine-point list of what to look out for, from someone who claims inside information: straight from dissatisfied decision-makers in mid-size businesses.

A pretty good list. The only surprise for me was that "webmaster" now carries the connotation of "amateur." Given what I've read, though, from the self-descriptions of web designers, I can believe it.

Great: Now I may have to come up with a new way to describe what I do.

Blog and Website Crossovers

"Does anybody have a website besides Blog?" is another BlogCatalog discussion string. I know: I post many of these, but they can be a good resource for bloggers.

The point of this one is that there are webmaster who are bloggers, and bloggers who run websites. The discussion should give you a feel for who some of these crossover types are.

25 Worst Websites: Don't Get On This List

PCWorld.ca's "The 25 worst websites: Complete list" (October 11, 2006) is an inspiration to webmasters everywhere: to avoid getting on future 25-worst lists.

I'm not convinced that the researcher found the 25 absolutely-worst-websites in the world, but the examples are bad enough until the worst are found.

Bloggers who tweak their blogs can benefit from studying the parade of "Scam artists, bad security, spyware and horrific design are just some of the many horror stories," and vow never to do the same.

The "Worst website of all time," according to the researcher, is the blogoid MySpace.com.

Monetizing Blogs and Websites: Ideas

"What's Better for Making Money: Advertising? Affiliate Programs? Retail?," yet another BlogCatalog discussion: This one has a variety of good ideas for making money from your blog or website.

No guarantees, of course, but the information and links should be a good starting point for the blogger or webmaster who doesn't mind monetizing their pages.
