The Kettles started out in a ramshackle shack, starting to experience empty nest syndrome - the oldest of their 15 kids had left for college.
The Ma & Pa Kettle films were strictly for laughs, or smiles at any rate. Pa Kettle is the paragon of laziness, Ma has trouble remembering all the children's names, and life was fine until Pa entered a contest.
What he wanted was to win a new tobacco pouch.
What he got was a high-end home with cutting-edge residential technology: 1949 style.
Think The Beverly Hillbillies, with more kids and more time to present the gags.
