There's information about flooring and allergies; climate; disability; kids; pets; and, of course, being green. That 'flooring and disability' section is about flooring and people with disabilities, BTW - not disabled flooring. Good idea, too: if you've ever tried to navigate a walker through deep shag, you'll know what I mean.

This doesn't seem to be an in-depth resource for any one topic. But, it does look like a very good place to start learning about flooring.

One thing I particularly appreciate is the recognition, in the "Climate" section, that not everybody lives in the American southwest. This impresses me, since many houses built here in Minnesota over the decades were clearly designed for a much warmer, drier, climate. I mean to say: the front door opening directly into the living room?!

Another good point: the website discusses different kinds of flooring, from bamboo to vinyl.

Even cork. That's not a typo. Cork flooring is a good choice for people who are concerned about using a sustainable resource, and aren't aware that wood grows in renewable trees. And, who don't mind the thought of a poor, defenseless cork tree being skinned alive, over and over again.

Seriously, cork flooring isn't just good for maintaining green bragging rights. The stuff is resilient: think of walking on an old-fashioned bulletin board. It can be durable, too. Some cork flooring comes with polyurethane finishes. Wait a minute. "Sustainable" flooring? With a polyurethane finish? Maybe sticking with oak or pine isn't such a bad idea, after all.
