Analog-to-Digital Television Switch: Oh No! How Will I Ever Afford a New Television Set?!

Picking up from my last post, "Analog-to-Digital Television Switch Coming February 17 - Or Not" (January 8, 2009): I realized that quite a few people aren't up to speed on just what is involved in this analog to digital television switch.

For example, I've read that it isn't clear whether or not you need to buy a new television set.

Much as I'd like an excuse to go out and buy a big, beautiful, wide-screen plasma TV, or whatever the cutting-edge technology is this week, my household's old clunker of a color television set, with its vacuum picture tube, will do just fine after the transition.
