Language for You (July 2, 2008)
The author of this post claimed, in a BlogCatalog discussion thread, that this post was "The Most Boring Blog Post Ever." With all due respect, that claim is patently false. I've read much more boring posts. Can't remember which they are, though, since I fell asleep before short-term memory could plague me with a lasting record.
I'll grant that I'm biased. As a recovering English teacher, I find the details of writing a good essay much more interesting than the typical American.
I was going to say that this post won't help you write an outstanding essay. Actually, it might: the advice is intended to help students write coherent, organized essays that address the topic assigned.
In some educational settings, an essay like that would be outstanding.
I'm getting off track.
"What Ingredients Must an Essay Contain?" is short, well-organized, and addresses the basics of essay writing, like:
- Transition sentence
- Topic sentence
- Sentences that develop the topic
- Concluding sentence
- Introduction
- Body paragraphs
- Conclusion
"Most boring blog post:" Ha!
