The Varma Mansion: One Big, Fancy, House

Updated (May 23, 2010)

The Lemming doesn't often revisit a topic quite this exactly: but the Varma Mansion is special. Besides, Contemporist took down the page this post links to, and I thought you might like more current information. And a replacement for the 2009 photo, from another source: The new photo is a clickable link to its source.

A newer post on The Mansion, with a couple more photos:
"The Mansion by Harrison Varma"
Contemporist (March 6, 2009)

"Harrison Varma have created The Mansion, a 16,000 square foot, 8 bedroom home, located near the Kenwood House in the Hampstead area of London.

"Husband and wife team Anil and Marisa Varma created their business out of sheer frustration back in 1996. Having endlessly searched for their ideal family home - a beautiful, generous, flexible modern property - they gave up and decided to design and create their own...."

I counted eighteen photos, including the one above.

The place is for sale, all 15,949 square feet, 8 bedroom suites, spectacular cinema and "Lift to all floors" of it.

If you have £35,000,000 (in the neighborhood of $50,000,000 USD, I think) lying around, and want lots of elbow room and a thoroughly Modern look, you could probably do a lot worse than this place.

It's a little out of my budget, though.

The Varmas have an impressive website: harrisonvarma.co.uk.
