The Ocean Will Boil! Ocean City Gets Great PR from Silly Ad

"Maryland Mayor: 'Come to Ocean City' Before the Ocean Disappears"
FOXNews.com (June 11, 2008)

"The print ad, which takes up most of a newspaper page, shouts, 'The Ocean Is Evaporating!'

"TV and Internet spots warn that the world's oceans will disappear — in about a billion years.

"But what appear to be public service announcements this week, delivered with a fake sternness by Mayor Richard W. Meehan, are actually an ad campaign to encourage visits to the resort town...."

I've seen the ad - and it's a great spoof of those terribly-serious Public Service Announcements. Besides that, it's great Marketing. By making a genuinely imaginative ad, Ocean City's mayor has put the ad - and Ocean City - in the national spotlight for at least several hours.

The 90-second ad is now on YouTube.

It' so clever, I don't even mind the slight glitch in the science.
