"Almost three-quarters of the oil spilled in the Gulf of Mexico has been cleaned up or broken down by natural forces, the US government says.
"White House energy adviser Carol Browner said only a quarter of the leaked oil posed any further danger to the environment.
"The majority had been captured, burned off or evaporated, she said.
"She was speaking after BP announced its 'static kill' procedure was working. Barack Obama welcomed the news...."

That's pretty good news.
Plugging that broken well isn't done. There's another, deeper, plug to be made: but work on that seems to be in process. The upper plug being in place and working now, before hurricane season peaks, is some of the best news we've had since the BP rig blew up.
The comparative lack of utter and complete environmental disaster all over the entire Gulf of Mexico is good news, too. At least for the folks living there.
Now, if America's government could get around to letting the companies that used to employ many of them get back to the job of extracting oil: that'd be good news, too. For the folks who made their living that way.
