"NL architects have designed the taipei performing arts center aiming to make
the building accessible to everybody. the public character of the center is guaranteed
by the elevation of a substantial part of its program, creating a public square underneath it. as such the square becomes part of the building inside of it...."
As you can see, from the absence of capital letters - except for the firm's name - design boom is very artistic and aesthetically sensitive.
They also, to my relief, give a pretty good description of the Taipei performing arts center, along with a profusion of photos, diagrams, and side views (they may be cross sections). This is an innovative design, probably somewhat practical, and - if it's built - will probably be the subject of rave reviews: Both for and against.
Good heavens, it looks like a cross between a salt lick and a lego set gone mad.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely in the "for" camp - I like the combination of open space and density. The only thing I don't like is that escalator on the left side - it looks tacked-on. Otherwise, I think it's a very striking design (in a good way).

ReplyDeleteAs a sculpture, it's marvelous. I'm not sure about escalator you mentioned - I see what you mean, though.
As for practicality - well, that would be a great 'extra,' I suppose.
