"Lost City in the Woods"
The Architect's Newspaper (April 2, 2008)
Photos and discussion of a contemporary ruins in New York City: North Brother Island in the East River.
I'm not sure whether Alan G. Brake's closing statement means, exactly: "The complex is a crumbling testament to an era with a greater sense of civic duty." Perhaps it is a reference to the "shuttered insane asylums and state hospitals across the country," mentioned in the body of this page.
That aside, the photos are an intriguing look at a part of New York city that's closed to the public.
