It's a very flat version of an extension cord. The idea is to put it in place and paint over it, for applications like home theater screens. The idea is that devices like that aren't supposed to have visible wires leading to them.

I'll accept that premise, and recognize this new product's utility.

However, as someone interested in interior design, the idea that wires, and other elements of residential infrastructure, should be hidden is open to debate.
