Maru the Cat: On a Hot Day

"「最近、暑すぎますよ。」
"[It is very hot recently.]..."

I remember long-hair cats resting like that on hot days. I suspect they may lose heat faster, if their belly fur is spread out like that.

Speculations aside - that's a charming cat. And, for me, a pleasant trip down memory lane.
