Haiti: CNN Statistics and Video

"The magnitude of Haiti's new reality"
CNN (February 12, 2010)

"One month after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti, the enormity of the country's damage is clear. The numbers tell stories of death and destruction, as well as a global outpouring of aid.

"CNN has compiled the latest, most reliable figures available as the devastation continues to unfold:

"THE TOLL

"212,000: Latest estimate of the death toll, from the Civil Protection Agency of the Government of Haiti
More than 300,000: Number of injured, according to the United Nations....
"

About a third of the folks in Haiti were affected by the quake, the article says.

It's bad, but it could be worse. Peter Turnley, a photographer and narrator of a short video that goes with the article says that Haitians are "organizing in their and in their neighborhoods." They've got markets going, and are finding ways to be productive.

They're also getting help: which they can use.

Speaking of which, from near the top of this page:

A list of charities you've probably heard about already, with links and some contact information: Also a list of posts in this, and two other blogs, about Haiti.
