"Witty quotes and insults from Winston Churchill"
Talking in Circles (June 2, 2008)
From "History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it."
To "Churchill: Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?
Woman: My goodness, Mr. Churchill… Well, I suppose… we would have to discuss terms, of course…
Churchill: Would you sleep with me for five pounds?
Woman: Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!
Churchill: Madam, we’ve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price."
The blogger is careful to say that these are "quotes and anecdotes attributed to him:" I appreciate that sort of awareness.
The list includes one of my own favorites: "Democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." (I've run into this idea, attributed to Churchill, with a slightly different phrasing - and don't have time to look it up right now.)
