Bird Hitching a Ride? or Defending a Nest?

Despite the file's name, I don't think that bird is getting a "free ride" on the hawk.

It's just speculation, but my guess is that the hawk is in the process of trying to be somewhere else, quickly, and that the bird has a nest nearby.
