'My Mind's Made Up: Don't Confuse Me With the Facts'

"Don't fight, adapt" National Post (December 12, 2007)

I try not to get too serious, here at Apathetic Lemming of the North, but once in a while something important shows up. This article is one of several that I ran across, about Global Warming.

"Everybody knows" that global warming is a terrible threat, and that we're all gonna die if something isn't done.

Turns out, everybody doesn't know that, including quite a few scientists.

This might be a good time to sit down, take a deep breath, and think.

So, there's a link, up there, and here are a few key phrases from the open letter:
  • "It is not possible to stop climate change, a natural phenomenon that has affected humanity through the ages."
  • "Leading scientists, including some senior IPCC representatives, acknowledge that today's computer models cannot predict climate."
  • "... no net global warming since 1998"
Hmmm. I remember reading about an Ice Age in school, and there was that cold spell, from 1250 to 1850. The Year Without a Summer wasn't the same sort of climate chage: that's what happens sometimes, after volcanic eruptions.

Besides, I live in Minnesota, where 'typical' late March weather is somewhere between -15 and 75, with beautifully clear days, blizzards, or tornadoes, and/or anything in between. I'm not too surprised to discover that weather or other natural phenomena change over time.
