I think that blogs authored by people who know how to write, and with something to say, will thrive: if for no other reason than that these people are not likely to get past the editorial selection process of traditional publishers.
Sometimes publishers remind me of a quip about the British education system, which seemed 'dedicated to the premise that Tennyson would never happen again.' (If I find the source of that, I'll most likely post it. Don't hold your breath.)
