I can honestly say that I never thought of putting a glass door in the floor of our kitchen. With a wine cellar under it.
In our case, there's a storage room down there already, which would save excavation time, but mean moving quite a lot. Besides, this household needs a wine cellar about as much as we need a landing pad for the helicopter we don't have.
Still - this is a very cool, and attractive, extra for houses. The door doesn't have to be glass. Some are virtually secret trapdoors.
